Y’all it’s been a hot second since I’ve blogged! However, I’m so happy to be back after all the festivities of the Holiday season! I have a life update post coming soon, but for now I wanted to finish what I started in telling you all about our Fall roadtrip!
Back in October, My husband Todd and I got back from an epic Fall Foilage Roadtrip. Our trip was 10 days and we visited 8 different cities. We started in Massachusetts (Salem & Boston). Then we headed to Portland & Bar Harbor, Maine, the White Mountains of New Hampshire, Vermont, and Lake Placid, NY. Our last stop was Saratoga Springs, NY!
Why Visit?
Saratoga Springs has a rich history because of its natural springs. It is home to many Spas and also a prime location for horse racing.
Saratoga Springs was also a great stopping location for us on our journey home. If you follow the same route we did, and live farther south, it definitely shaved a few hours off of our journey home!
Where to Stay?
We stayed in a fantastic bungalow (completely to ourselves) through Airbnb. We absolutely loved this location right on the lake! Also, we were so thankful that we were able to do a load of laundry at this location! lol (pic via Airbnb)
If you have never used Airbnb, you really should give it a try! Often times I find it is cheaper to stay in a house than it is a one bedroom hotel room! Also, you often get to stay in the quaintest and coolest houses out there. If you would like to give Airbnb a try click on this link to get $40 dollars off your first booking!
Where To Eat:
Cantina: We had some delicious tacos here!
Kilwins: Okay I know this is a chain dessert place, but Todd & I are obsessed. If we see a Kilwin’s we know we have to stop in! If you have never been, they have the best ice cream and fudge in the world! Bonus points: it was right down the road from Cantina!
Urban Roots: If you need a quick health juice or smoothie, this is a great stop! I was also low key dying over the plant/moss wall!
Kru: Great place for a caffiene fix! We loved how big and open this coffee shop was!
What to Do:
Soak in a Mineral Bath at Roosevelt Baths & Spa: This Spa was opened in 1935 thanks to President Roosevelt’s efforts to preserve the Saratoga Springs area. A Mineral Bath (yes that’s the color of just the water!) was all the rage in the 40’s, when people would come and stay for a 3 week treatment! The minerals are said to have great healing properties for your body. Todd and I both opted for the 40 minute bath with essential oils (our opinion is to skip the essential oil add on cost, and just bring your own!) for $40 each. Yes that is an expensive bath, lol but it was definitely an experience! Make sure to book your appointment ahead of time to ensure a spot.
If you are wondering what exactly to expect (like I was) here is the 411: Once you check in the will take you to a locker room where you will change into provided robe and sandals. Then you can spend time in the relaxing/waiting room that is complete with comfy chairs, fruit, and tea. People will be completely vegged out in here! Once your treatment is ready they will escort you to a private room with a private bathroom attached. The bath will already be drawn for you. Once your time is up someone will come and knock/open the door and throw you a towel. Then you can return to the relaxing room, or leave!
Taste all of the Springs in Congress Park: Stop in at the visitor’s center across the street for a tasting cup. Then make your way to each of the springs around the park. Some of them are absolutely nasty, and then some don’t taste too bad!
