Todd and I took a trip to Waco, Texas in the beginning of June when we took a trip to see some of my family in Houston. We made a quick day trip of it and got to see and explore a good bit of Waco, even though we only had a little bit of time.
To get from Houston to Waco it took about 3 hours, so we rented a car and headed to Waco bright and early. Honestly it was a very pretty and easy drive, not difficult to do at all!
We started our day in Waco with brunch at Magnolia Table. Magnolia Table is only open until 3pm and only serves breakfast and lunch. The earlier you arrive, the better chance you have of not having a long wait. We ended up having to wait an hour, which we didn’t mind because it gave us a chance to explore and get some pictures.
We decided to start with getting something at the little cafe that they have (there are actually two of them, one is inside the gift shop and has more options then the one outside does).
Todd needed a bit of coffee and I decided to get some lemon lavender donuts since it was National Donut day (they were delicious of course)!
One thing that was so awesome about the “wait time” was that they had games to play, lots of shade, fans blowing, and menus to look over.
Pro tip: Find Chip and Jo’s handprints on the property of Magnolia Table
The whole restaurant (even the bathroom!) is absolutely beautiful! We were lucky and ended up with a table for two, but they also have bar seating, and family style seating.
The food is AMAZING! Also, you get a ton of food so if you are on a budget, chances are you might be able to share.
I ordered pancakes with the strawberry butter (dying just thinking about it right now…) and Todd got lemon blueberry pancakes with lemon butter. We also got a juice flight to share. Also, the hash browns were so delicious!
Pro Tip: Magnolia Table is not on the same property as Magnolia Market. However, there is a bus that runs between them, so if you have a long wait you can pop over to Magnolia Market!
After Brunch we headed over to Magnolia Market.
Magnolia Market is seriously picture perfect.
On the property of Magnolia Market there is of course the Silos, the Bakery, the Store, the garden, Seed + Supply store, a huge lawn, and tons of food trucks! (p.s. there is also a soon to be coffee shop!)
The store has so many good things! Make sure you pack an extra suit case! We only bought a few small items, but I have heard that if you do find something big that you want, they will ship it to your home right from the store!
I wish my stomach was a bottomless pit so I could have tried all the food trucks! They seemed so amazing! However, we only had room for a sweet tea.
The sweet tea was pretty good and seems to be a staple at the Magnolia Market (everyone was carrying one around.)
The prices are fairly reasonable for the tea. It’s $8 for you first cup, but that includes the mason jar cup for you to keep. After that refills are $2.
After we explored all of Magnolia Market, we decided to take the Circle bus around downtown Waco. We knew we didn’t have a ton of time, so we decided just to stop in Spice Village.
Pro Tip: Take the circle bus instead of driving! They give you fun inside info, and you might even get a peep at one of Chip and Jo’s designs.
Spice Village is a bit difficult to locate, but it’s totally worth it. The store has over 80 local vendors with a lot of locally made items! It’s super fun, especially if you are looking for a specific gift.
After Spice Village, we explored a few other nearby shops. There are quite a few home good and women’s clothing boutiques in the area.
Next, we hoped in the car and made our way over to Heritage Creamery and Common Grounds Coffee (they are side by side). You will want to drive here because they are on Baylor campus and not downtown.
We were still so full we only got cookies at Heritage, but it was an adorable and delicious smelling shop!
Common Grounds might be the coolest coffeeshop I have ever seen! It’s themed like a tree house. The building actually has real trees running through it!
Todd tried their secret “cowboy” coffee and said it was some of the best coffee he has ever had.
Before we left Waco we went to the Little Shop on Bosque. This was the original Magnolia store, and currently serves as the discount store. It’s rather small but totally worth going! (we got some things SUPER cheap!)
Pro Tip: If you shop at Bosque, bring your receipt from Magnolia Market, they give you an extra percentage off!
After that we were on our way back home! Below are some other recommendations I received or saw but did not have a chance to go to in Waco.
