Hey everyone! So yesterday I shared about the adventure I took with my husband to Cape Lookout! If you missed the post you can check it out here.
When I was planning for the trip and doing my research there wasn’t much out there about food for camping, yeah there were a lot of recipes, but I wanted to know the tips and tricks and what people actually packed for a two night camping trip and not just a single meal they made. A lot of what we ended up doing was shared with me from friends who had gone camping or beach camping. So I thought, for future beach campers, this might be a helpful reference guide.
If you read our post then you know we were only able to do go camping for one night because of us taking the wrong ferry, however, I’m going to share with you our full meal plan as if we were able to actually camp for two nights. We actually did eat all the food, one night I just happened to cook it in the hotel! lol
MEAL PLAN:
Day 1: Arrive at Camp for Dinner
Dessert: Reese’s S’mores: I prepped by taking all the reese’s out of their wrapping and freezing them
Day 2: Full Day at Campsite
Breakfast: Granola Bars and Strawberries
Lunch: Hot Dogs and Corn on the Cob: For the corn I just dressed it with olive oil and salt and pepper and wrapped it in aluminum foil and then froze them
Dinner: Campfire Pizza Log: This was absolutely delicious! This easily fed two people and could have fed a third. I completely prepared it and froze this before we went.
Dessert: Blueberry Cobbler: This was Todd’s favorite! I made the blueberry mix beforehand and froze it and just kept the biscuits cold.
Day 3: Leave camp site
Breakfast: Granola Bars
Snacks: Apples, Chex Mix, Gatorade, Sunny D (Freeze this, and drink it as it melts, so delicious for camping!)
TIPS AND TRICKS:
– Freeze almost everything before you go (and give yourself at least a full 24 hours to allow it all to fully freeze)
– Freeze the water bottles you are taking and use them instead of ice (we went home still with completely frozen water bottles, it was amazing how long they stayed frozen!)
– Pack your cooler in order of how you are eating (for example I did layer of frozen water bottles, and then the last nights dinner on bottom, then another layer of water bottles, then lunch, etc.)
-Try to plan to eat the meals that include raw meat earlier in your trip
– Use heavy duty aluminum foil for cooking over the fire
-If using a fire starter, wait till the fire starter has burn down and the wood as caught for anything you are are cooked “naked” over the grill (think hotdogs) otherwise you will get all those chemicals on your food!
– Pick one meal of the day that you don’t need a fire for (for us it was breakfast) it saves a lot of time
-Decide to either cook over fire or over a coleman stove (we obviously picked fire) it will cut down on how much you need to pack
-Invest in a few easy camp fire tools to make you life easier (my suggestions are linked below)
If you have been camping before leave me a comment below letting me know what your favorite food to eat while camping is!
Have a great day!
