This month I was able to read three books! One I loved, one I liked and one I hated, so it’s a bit of a mix!

I decided to pick up Lincoln in the Bardo after I heard it mentioned on the podcast, What Should I Read Next? Someone said it was in her favorites. The story follows some very interesting characters in a graveyard on the night that Lincoln’s son dies. I can see how some would call this literary genius, because the story is strange, and it’s told in a very strange way. However, I rate books based off of how much I enjoy them, and I did NOT like this book. I would give it 2 stars. I often times didn’t know what was going on in the story, and often I had to go back and reread what I had just read. I personally would not suggest this one, however, to each their own!

I listend to American Wife on audiobook, and let me tell you it was LONG (19 discs)! It took me over one month to listen to. I picked this one up because it was supposed to be loosely based on Laura Bush. Overall, I enjoyed the story it took me on, however there were a few things that held me back from giving it 5 stars. One, I didn’t necessarily love how the story made the supposed President Bush character look. It just didn’t shed much positive light on him. Also, I wasn’t a huge fan of the ending. Also, I was surprised that only a small portion of the book was actually about when she was first lady. I picked up the book because I am fascinated by stories about the Presidency, but this was only the story line for about 25% of the book or less. Overall though it took me on a good ride and I was constantly googling Laura Bush to find out if the information was true or made up by the author.

Lastly this month I read The Break Down! I had really wanted to read it after I had read B.A. Paris’ other novel! This one hooked me in right away! I loved the story line! If you are a fan of thrillers then you will love this one. Basically the story follows a woman who believes she is starting to have a mental breakdown after she drives past a lady (and didn’t help her) and she finds out she was murdered the next day.
I’m hoping I will get to read more in February! I already have a new book started, but what else do I need to pick up right away!? Let me know! Thanks for stopping by!
