Wow! I can’t believe we are already done with April and almost halfway through May! Spring is seriously flying by!
Today is my favorite post of the month! Books!
This month I sadly didn’t get to read as much as I would have liked, but I still was able to read three.
As always, I am linking up with a lot of others on the web to share our most recent reads.
You’ve Been Volunteered by Laurie Gelman
I was so excited when I got an advanced reader copy of You’ve Been Volunteered from Netgalley (thanks, and btw all opinions are my own!) If you haven’t already read Class Mom by Laurie Gelman, than run and go read that now before this one comes out in July! Seriously it’s just a light but oh so funny book to read. I think this one might even be better than her first one! This book picks right back up with Jen as she embarks another year as class mom…oh and safety patrol volunteer coordinator too. I think this book would be extra fun to read if you have kids in school, but even someone like me with no kids really enjoyed it! This is a must read.

The Broken Girls by Simone St. James
I heard about The Broken Girls from another blogger here on our link-up (which is why I just love this little book blogging community). This novel follows two timelines, one present day, and one in the 1950’s. In present day we follow a woman who can’t quite come to rest with her sister’s murder, and in the 50’s we follow 4 troubled girls and their time at a boarding school for misfits. This book was not faced paced, but also not slow paced. It was a thriller without having all your psychological twists and turns. And it had a bit of historical fiction thrown in as well. Overall, it was just a well written story that I think most people would enjoy!

Surprise Me by Sophie Kinsella
I try to read all of Sophie Kinsella’s books so even though this one had so many negative reviews, I still decided to give it a chance on audiobook. First let me say, if you don’t listen to Kinsella books on audiobook, then you are doing it all wrong! Her books are 10X better on audiobook because the reader is always amazing and you pick up on the humor so much more! Okay, now for the review. I think I went into this one with such low expectations that I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn’t my favorite Kinsella book, but it also wasn’t bad! The story follows a couple who has found out that they are most likely going to live for a really long time, and realize that it means that they will be married fro a really long time. So to make married life more exciting they try to start “surprising” each other. And in true Kinsella fashion, the surprises often backfire. Although I found this feeling of not wanting to be married to the same person for a long time unrelatable, the story line had more to it than just that. So I wouldn’t let the negative reviews scare you away!
