My last month of Summer reading was great! 4 books, none of them duds! That’s a win!
The Escape Room by Megan Goldin
The Escape Room is the latest “business thriller,” following 4 rich business people that are stuck in an elevator, that they have been told is an escape room game. The book is written in flashback style to help us figure out exactly why they are there. I enjoyed this book while reading, however I doubt it will stick with me for awhile (I’m already forgetting major points of the plot), however it was a fun read, that has the twist at the end that everyone craves! If you love thrillers check this one out, otherwise skip it!

Letters to the Church by Francis Chan
Wow. This book is crazy powerful and essentially has the power to change how you see ministry. This book has been known as the “pro home church” book, but it seriously is so much more than that. Chan addresses many issues that are affecting our modern church, like the consumerism mindset of the attendees. Although I might not agree with Francis Chan 100% on all of his arguments and ways of doing ministry, I loved how this book spoke to the modern church. This is definitely one I will keep on my bookshelf to refer back to (I highlighted like a mad-man!)

I have always stayed away from Blake Crouch novels, until Recursion because I previously thought they were not my cup of tea, but this book totally changed my mind. Recursion’s plot is almost too much to explain, but here is my best effort: the United States is suddenly dealing with a disease called False Memory Syndrome and our main character Helen, is working on a machine that will hopefully help people one day, like her Mom, with alzheimer, hold onto their memories. This book kept me wanting to read more, and I actually enjoyed all the science thrown into it (I didn’t find it overwhelming). I will definitely be reading more Blake Crouch in the future!

In the Woods had been on my list for awhile, and for some reason I wasn’t expecting it to be a police procedural book like it was. The story follows Rob, a police officer in Dublin who as a kid was the only surviver in a Murder case, who has to return back to his old home town to solve a new murder. This story is definitely a slow build and doesn’t necessarily have crazy twists and turns like some of the modern mysteries do, but I still enjoyed the book and plan to pick up more of the series!

I know so many people absolutely love Summer reading, and I do too, but honestly my favorite time of the year to read is Fall & Winter when you just want to be cozied up in a nice warm blanket in front of the fire. So, I am looking forward to the months of reading ahead!
What’s on your TBR list for September?
