Happy Labor Day! Today I am linking up with Andrea today to share some fun facts about my days in school! (Even though I still spend my days in school 😉 ) Let’s jump in!
1. Did you love school or hate it?
I was very neutral about school, I definitely didn’t hate it, but at the same time I definitely enjoyed other things over doing actual school work. I would say I leaned more towards the loving it side though because I definitely hated to miss a day, and really enjoyed getting good grades!
2. Start school before or after Labor Day?
Always before, always started mid August.
3. Wake up: eager beaver or slow poke?
More in the middle, I would always get up with my alarm, but never was necessarily “eager”
4. Favorite breakfast?
Pop tarts or Eggo waffles lol
5. Favorite cereal?
Captain Crunch!
6. School uniform or no uniform?
No uniforms! And I would have hated it when I was in school if I had to, but now I see the purpose lol. I mean look at the awesome style I had in the photo above! lol
(First day of 6th. I remember loving this shirt from Aeropostale)
(First day of 9th grade rocking the Hollister)
(First day of Senior year)
7. New outfit for first day or no?
Of course! Always a tradition to go shopping with my mom and buy a few new back to school looks!
8. Walk to school or ride the bus?
Ride the bus! All the way to Senior year! Lol this was rare as most kids got a car, but I had to save up for my own, so didn’t get one until college!
9. Backpack, tote or messenger bag?
I switched it up a bit, but usually had to go with the biggest backpack I could find to fit all my books!
(fourth grade)
10. Eat school lunch or pack lunch?
Always pack! I’m still sick of PB & J
11. Remember the little milk cartons? White or chocolate?
Of course! I can still taste the chocolate milk mixed with cardboard taste lol (jealous that kids get plastic nowadays)
12. Paper bag or lunch box?
Lunch box
(First grade)
13. Favorite thing to do at recess?
Oh it really depends on the year, one of my favorite memories is in 5th grade playing “house” with all my girlfriends on the picnic tables. I also remember playing a lot of Red Rover, Ghost in the Graveyard, jump roping, and spending all my time on the monkey bars.
14. Favorite back to school supply item?
Cute notebooks and folders (probably Lisa Frank lol)
15. Chalkboard or dry erase board?
Dry erase, I started 1st grade at a brand new school, so we had everything new!
16. Regular pencil or mechanical?
Mechanical, but I also loved the seasonal regular pencils that were in goody bags or treasure boxes!
17. Homework as soon as you got home or after dinner?
I usually did HW about an hour after I got home, I always took a break while watching TV and eating and then I worked!
18. Favorite after school snack?
All the snacks lol! I could eat a box of Cheez-its easily in one sitting. For this reason my mom started feeding me dinner as soon as I got home! So I was often greeted with green beans and other healthy items! haha This worked out though when I got really involved in dance because I would have practice from 5- 9 a lot of nights, so eating dinner early was important!
19. Favorite after school show?
Oh so many! Some of the ones I remember watching all the way through: Sabrina, Step-by-Step, Reba, Saved by the Bell, Full House, and then anything on Disney Channel (loved Lizzie Mcguire!)
20. Favorite subject in school?
I really enjoyed history class in school, and I had an amazing Chemistry teacher, so in high school Chemistry was my favorite.
21. Least favorite subject in school?
Probably Spanish because I didn’t have the best accent, or math because of all the work lol (and now I teach math and love it!)
(Angela and me on 80’s day)
22. Name of your best friend in high school?
Friends often switched up in school year to year, but two of my best friends in high school were Angela and Jenna! 🙂
23. High school mascot type?
Terriers!
24. SAT or ACT?
Both…I was trying to get into an honors program, so I took both to try and get higher scores! I ended up taking the ACT twice and the SATS three times!
(My third grade teacher and me on Field day!)
25. Favorite year in school?
Probably 3rd grade! I had not only an amazing teacher (I still remember so many of the neat ways she taught me) but this was also the year I started doing advanced work. Before 3rd grade I really struggled! I actually failed first grade! My mom did hooked on phonics with me and then really had to work with me on my math facts through second grade! In third grade though my teacher started giving me a special folder of work to do when I finished early, and that made me feel really special! This was like my changing year in school from struggling student to a student that worked hard and got good grades.
26. Class Ring or no Class Ring?
Class ring, and I don’t regret getting one, even though I don’t wear it anymore!
27. Attend or not attend high school reunions?
We have yet to have one, so we will see if I do! It’s been 6 years, so I’m guessing there will be one at 10.
This was so fun to go back and think about all the wonderful memories I have of my school-age years! It’s a good reminder that as a teacher I am going to be apart of these kids memories and I have a big say in whether they are good or not so good! Thanks for stopping by my blog today!
