Day 3: Resort Day/Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
Day 3 we knew was going to be a bit of a rest day for our family, Toddlers can only handle so much, and after 3 days of not so great naps and busy days, this day was awesome for us!
Originally we had planned a breakfast at the Grand Floridian and to ride the monorail to resort hop. We were going to see all the beautiful Christmas decorations at the different resorts on the loop (The Grand Floridian has a REAL gingerbread house that they sell treats out of. Supposedly it is spectacular!), and then come back for a hotel nap. But life had other plans when Todd came down with a stomach bug….
Yep that’s right, we weren’t sure at the time if it was food poisoning or a little bug, but in the night he ended up getting sick. Oh and it was also his birthday…poor Todd! Since the boys and I were well, we got out of the hotel room to let Todd rest and to keep the boys away as best as possible from the germs, and we went exploring around our resort!
We started out with going to the quick service cafeteria in our resort to get some breakfast. The boys really enjoyed their first mickey waffles!
Then we fully explored the resort! We did a nice long stroller walk around the campus, and then I got them out and we played foot pool, chess, and checkers. The boys loved this green space to run around! We also went and played at the playground for awhile, and we peaked over at the pool, which is where we grabbed some chicken nuggets for lunch!
I highly recommend a rest day if you are traveling with toddlers to Disney. If you think about it, toddlers are experiencing a lot of new things at Disney, and it can be a bit overstimulating. I think a day out in the fresh air was just what these boys needed and they loved it!
After lunch, we went back to the room to take a nap. After we all napped, Todd felt well enough to get up and go to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
If you don’t know anything about Mickey’s special holiday parties here is a brief overview: they happen at night, they are an extra ticket to buy, they aren’t cheap, they are super special.
We decided to get tickets to the Christmas party because the boys were free, and we wanted to experience all the Christmas magic without all the people!
You can get there as early as 4pm if you have tickets, but the party officially starts at 7. With Todd not feeling the best, we opted to arrive around 6:30. We started with the Christmas show in front of the castle which was fun, but hard to see. Then we waited for the absolute best part of the night…the Christmas parade!
My boys were in hog heaven. We had great spots for the parade (we camped out for them!), and this was the absolute favorite for all of us of this trip! The floats were spectacular, and scented, and full of Christmas spirit. I took way more video than I did pictures of the parade, so if you want to see more of this awesome experience check it out here.
P.S. Make sure to have your bubble wand, tablet, light up toy…whatever to entertain the toddlers during this wait! You can check out my favs here.
While we were waiting, Arrow needed a quick diaper change. So while Todd held our spot, we went to the baby care center which is AMAZING. On the way back, I saw an open photographer and Arrow & I had a fun little photoshoot….
Also during the parade, I was able to get us some free cookies and hot cocoa.
After the parade, we rushed over to meet Santa. The line was thankfully not terribly long.
And then we headed out right as fireworks were starting. We might have stayed longer had Todd been feeling better, but we decided not to push it and go back to the hotel and get some rest!
A few other things about the Christmas party: we got a free ornament when we entered (one per ticket), and a free Christmas print when we left. Todd and I also got a personalized ornament made while we were there to remember our trip (we get an ornament on every vacation). There is also special party “merch” but we decided to keep it simple with our mementos.

We picked Epcot for our last day because we knew it would be a shorter day. We also did decide to do Genie+ but this is one day you could try to skip it! It didn’t seem to be that useful with toddlers!
Our day was a little crazy at Epcot, the boys were just tired and I think a bit overwhelmed. They had a lot more big feelings here than any other day, but we pushed through the best we could!
We started out getting some yummy food at the quick service in Mexico (always one of our favorites). We rode the ride inside of Mexico, and the boys really enjoyed it once they got over it being dark. (dark rides = not favorites). Then we walked around the world showcase.
We got a genie+ reservation for the Frozen ride, which I thought my boys would LOVE…but they were so frightened by the “snow monster” and drop at the end. Just a warning for other Mamas that have sensitive littles, this might be a little too much!
We enjoyed the Christmas decorations around the World, and we picked up a few Christmas cookies in the cookie stroll, some Werther’s caramel corn in Germany (a must!), and we got a few other food items from the Epcot Holiday Food and Wine Festival.
We managed to purchase a Lightening Lane for Cosmic Rewind (the new Guardians of the Galaxy ride). Do not miss this if you go to Epcot! Todd & I just switched off riding, it was so AMAZING! I’ve never been on another ride like it.
We took the boys to see Turtle Talk with Crush, rode the Nemo ride, got some food and checked out the indoor aquarium.
We wanted to do more, but at that point the boys were done, and so were we! We did stop for some yummy Chinese food though before we left though!
After we left we headed to visit some family that lives in Florida!
All in all we had a fantastic trip and we would definitely take our two year olds again!
