Today is one of my favorite post every month! My July Recent Reads! This month I truly struggled to read four books (my typical goal) because of all the traveling (reading in the car…bleh), but by some miracle I did read four! If you want to see what I was so busy doing in July click here, other wise let’s talk books!
Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney
I started this month off with a thriller. This book features a girl who is in a coma, you also get back and forth glimpses between present day and the past. There is a bit of a mystery to solve because she is trying to figure out why/who is responsible for her being in this coma! I truly enjoyed this one and I was shocked by a few parts of the story line. That’s all I can really say without giving anything away! Overall I really enjoyed this one and would recommend it!

The Weekenders by Mary Kay Andrews
This book took me forever on audiobook! I actually started it in June and it took me till the end of July to finish it because… I just didn’t like it! Mary Kay Andrews is truly hit or miss for me, and this was extremely a miss. There was a death in the story that made for a bit of a mystery, but in my opinion not a mystery done well. Maybe it was the fact that it was on audiobook, but this book just moved so slowly! I also didn’t really like ANY of the characters except maybe the leads best friend. I know there are others that really liked this one, so maybe I’m just in the minority! I seem to be pickier about my chick-lit though!

When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon
This book I saw popping up on a lot of book blogs and at first I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy it, but I decided to branch out of my cultural comfort zone and I loved it! If you enjoy YA love stories, this one is super cute. The story follows a guy and a girl that end up at a summer camp and find out that their parents have arranged a marriage for them! This book does a great job bringing in hints of Indian culture so that the reader is able to learn more, without it being distracting to the storyline This was a super light read that I would definitely recommend it!

A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
This book is a sequel to An Ember in the Ashes, which I read last month and recommended. Obviously, if you haven’t read that one yet, start there. This book was just a good, and I look forward to reading the third in the sequel. This type of story isn’t probably for everyone. It’s definitely a bit more dystopian/fantasy, but if you enjoyed books such as the Divergent series, then you would enjoy these! Basically there is a ruling class called the Martials and other classes as well that are slaves to them, the story follows a lot of this tension, and leaders from the classes. That’s all I can describe without getting into a LOT of detail, LOL.

Bachelor Nation by Amy Kaufman
I picked this one up on a whim at the library, and ya’ll, I really did give it a chance…but it was just so boring! The book read like I was reading a newspaper article…not my favorite writing style (which is what type of writer the author was, so it made since). Also, I thought this book was going to give me the inside scoop on the bachelor, and after 80 pages in, all I could tell you about was the history of the creator of the Bachelor, and the history of reality TV…not exactly what I was wanting to read about! This would be a great book to turn to if you needed research, but it wasn’t a fun read.
