This past month I had a super weird mix of books, a little spooky, a little fantasy, and then some Christmas spirit!
The Whisper Man was the last of my spooky Halloween reads. The story takes place in a small town where a little boy has gone missing. At the same time, a Dad and son have just moved into a new home and strange things start happening with the son. It was a solid slow burn mystery thriller book. It wasn’t as scary as I thought it was going to be from the title, but if thrillers like this aren’t your thing, you may want to skip over it!

I had seen this book floating around on blog reviews and it seemed most people enjoyed this one, so I decided to give it a try on audiobook, really knowing nothing about it. This book is definitely way different than I thought. It’s super quirky, and easily fits into a historical fiction (super fiction that is) fantasy category (if that category doesn’t exist, it does now with this book!). The story takes the story of Queen Jane and switches it up quite a bit. Not only the story, but a new important detail is added in, there are some humans who can now turn into animals. This distinction between humans replaces the protestant/catholic divide of the time. Like I said, unique, but quite fun! I think I might have enjoyed this more by reading it rather than listening, but overall it was a fun book and I will probably read more from this series!

An Island Christmas by Nancy Thayer
I love to watch my cheesy Hallmark movies, and I also love to read them. This year I have been on the hunt for some new Christmas books. After reading the Winter Street Series over the past few years (and loving them!), I knew I needed something similar. Nancy Thayer’s books got great reviews so I decided to give them a try and I loved them! This specific one follows a family that is planning a wedding on Christmas day! I love how the story is simple and light, and takes place on Nantucket. I will say that compared to the Winter Street series, Thayer’s don’t have as much meat. But overall, I really enjoyed this one!

A Nantucket Christmas by Nancy Thayer
This was the next Thayer book I picked up and I think I liked this one even better! We have a sweet story of a homeless dog, as well as a family that comes together over the holidays and not everyone is in the most cheerful and merry spirit! If you love the light Christmas books, pick this one up!

I already have a few more Christmas books from the library to read. As well as a few thrillers! I also just started listening to The Handmaid’s Tale on audio and I’m already so into it! What are you reading on your last month of the decade!?
