My husband Todd and I recently got back from an epic Fall Foilage Roadtrip. Our trip was 10 days and we visited 8 different cities. We started in Massachusetts (Salem & Boston). Then we headed to Portland & Bar Harbor, Maine, and then to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Our next stop was Vermont!
Why Visit?
Vermont is the place you picture when you imagine a cozy cabin in the Fall time. We knew we had to visit in October! Also, Vermont is known for many popular food items, such as Maple Syrup & Ben & Jerry’s.
Where to Stay?
We only stayed one night in Vermont. We ended up staying in Burlington, VT, which is on the western side of the state. It’s a great place to stay because there is a ton to do there! We ended up going with an Airbnb to save money.
If you have never used Airbnb, you really should give it a try! Often times I find it is cheaper to stay in a house than it is a one bedroom hotel room! Also, you often get to stay in the quaintest and coolest houses out there. If you would like to give Airbnb a try click on this link to get $40 dollars off your first booking!
We stayed at this cute little cottage (pic via Airbnb). Vermont is a very “green conscious” state, so one super interesting thing about this stay is that it didn’t have plumbing. The host allowed you to take a shower inside the main house, and there was a toilet that sort of worked like a porter john inside the cabin, as well as water that came from a large container. It honestly wasn’t as bad as it sounds, and was sort of like camping! For one night it was definitely do-able, but it might not be for everyone!
Where to Eat:
We were in Vermont for such a short time we honestly did not have time to eat very many places, but where we did stop was delicious! 🙂
The Daily Planet: We happened upon this restaurant in Burlington because it was Taco Tuesday! We both ordered tacos and they were delicious. This place was packed and definitely was a fav among local college kids!
Vermont Artisan Coffee & Tea: This coffee shop was absolutely beautiful in Waterbury, VT. Make sure to stop in here if you need a caffeine fix!
Ben & Jerry’s: I don’t think you can go to Vermont without eating at Ben & Jerry’s because it was created there! There are many locations, but we ended up eating at the one in downtown Burlington.
What To Do:
Cold Hollow Cider Mill: This place is Fall in a nutshell! In my opinion this is a do not miss! While yes, it is a huge store, there is so much! Not only is it a great place to buy gifts (maple everything!), but it is also a great place to eat lunch, and get a fun dessert. We got apple cider donuts, hot apple cider and maple ice cream! A fun tip is to put the maple ice cream on your donut…heavenly! Also, you can watch a demonstration on how they make apple cider, as well as see the bees that make the honey!
Pants: similar
Boots: American Eagle
Downtown Burlington: Burlington is an adorable and totally New England feeling city! We loved walking the streets and exploring all the fun stores. I think out of the whole trip, this was my favorite “downtown.” We definitely found the most treasures here!
