It’s so crazy to think that Todd and I have been together for 9 years! Over the years we’ve gotten to go on so many fun adventures and we are so thankful for those! We know with TWO babies things might look a little bit different for a while, although, no worries we still plan on traveling with them as much as possible! So, we knew we wanted to take a Babymoon as a last trip before the kiddos come!
Why Stay at the Homestead for a Babymoon?
Originally when we first found out we were pregnant, we thought about taking a BIG trip, and then COVID hit… then we found out it was twins, which shortened our travel window. It’s recommended that after 24 weeks with twins you do not travel far from where you would be able to possibly visit your babies in NICU since preterm labor is common with twins! So we knew we needed something that was:
- semi close by that in case of emergency we could most likely make it home
- not in a covid hotspot
- a place where we could safely social distance but still do things!
- Not overly pricey because well…twins! lol
That’s why the Omni Homestead Resort in Bath County ended up being the perfect destination for us!
Bath County is a super rural area right in the middle of the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains! Which meant that their covid cases have been super low!
The Homestead Resort claims to be the first resort in the United States. In fact 22 presidents have stayed at the Homestead! The Homestead is located near a ton of mineral springs that were once thought to have healing properties.
Also, the Homestead is straight up GORGEOUS! The old architecture is dreamy. If you visit the homestead you really don’t need to go anywhere else on your stay because there is plenty to do. They have restaurants on property, a pool with a lazy river, golf-course, spa, and so many other activities such as horseback riding and falconry!
One caveat is that everything is NOT included in your hotel room price. Adding extra activities to your stay can be on the costly side, but we made do with not spending a ton of extra money so it’s definitely do-able!
Our Room:
We selected the cheapest room available to stay at the hotel. The room was on the smaller side, but still very nice! The bathroom had plenty of space and I definitely took advantage of the tub for a nice bubble bath!
What We Did:
Explored the Grounds/Tour: we loved just taking in all the beautiful sights around the hotel! Everywhere you went there was another beautiful sitting area that you could cozy up in (like the library). Everyday at 10AM the offer a free tour of the building. We enjoyed learning so much history about hotel. The tour lasted about an hour & a half.
Daily Tea Time: Everyday from 3-4 they have a free tea time in the lobby where they hand out delicious treats and hot or cold tea! We loved stopping by for our treats and then sitting in the rocking chairs out on the front lawn.
Eat delicious food: The pandemic definitely made things a bit different for the restaurants, it was reservation only or take-out, and only some of the restaurants were open, but if you are reading this and masks are a thing of the past, then I’m sure reservations at their restaurants will be easier to come by! We decided to eat one nice dinner and breakfast (breakfast was a la carte for the time being) in the dining room and the rest we did takeout. We also went to lunch at Sam Snead’s Tavern, which is walkable from the resort, and we 100% recommend eating there! We shared the fried chicken and it was AMAZING! Not the mention the milkshakes! Also, a fun Homestead must have is their Maple donuts! Don’t leave without trying one!
Relax at the Pool: The Pool was so refreshing! All I have been wanting to do this summer is chill in a pool and that’s exactly what we did! Due to the pandemic the lazy river and splash pad were closed, but we were still able to enjoy the pool, however we had to make a reservation to do so!

Visit the Hot Springs & The Local Lake: Wow is Bath County beautiful! There is a local lake that we fully intend on camping by in the future. We also enjoyed going to the Jefferson Hot Springs and dipping our feet in the warm mineral water (a lot of people get totally in). There are tons of other local springs and water falls in the area, so if you are into hiking and the outdoors make sure to check out all the area has!

That sums up our babymoon! It was definitely shorter than what we would have liked, but we are so happy we were able to get away and change up our scenery while still staying safe during this crazy time!
Where did you take your babymoon to?
