I am so excited because today is my first book post of 2019! YAY! Book reviews are my favorite!
I had a goal this year of starting to not worry about always keeping up with the latest and the greatest books (I will still read some of them for sure!) but for also going back the past few years and reading books I never got around to reading or reading more off my personal shelf from home!
I’m hoping that I will be able to read at least one book each month that isn’t necessarily new and on the best seller list.
So to start this challenge, the first book I read was from my personal shelf, and one I’ve been meaning to read for a long time…
This book came out right when I was in college and only reading textbooks and dystopian YA. I had seen the movie, but it had been awhile, so I decided to pick it up, and y’all if you haven’t read this book before, it truly is a delight. If you’re not familiar with the story, it follows a few different women around who are “the help” in Mississippi in the early 60’s. The story is fun, but also deals with more serious topics. If you somehow missed reading this like I did, then make sure to pick it up!

The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines
I picked up The Magnolia Story to listen to because who isn’t a fan of Chip and Jo? I went with an audiobook because of course, it was read by Chip and Jo, which I loved. This is a short read(or listen), but the story is really inspiring. I loved hearing about how they met and all the crazy things they were into before the TV show. I would say there were a few dry spots in the book, but overall so good! If you are a fan of the TV show I would definitely recommend!

The Mother-In-Law by Sally Hepworth
I personally have never read any of Hepworth’s other work, but I know she is quite popular in the book blogging community, so when I saw that I could get a early copy to read of this on Netgalley for free (thanks Netgalley!), I was eager to give her work a try, especially since it was a thriller. Overall, this was a fast-paced read that followed the rocky relationship of a woman with her mother-in-law. Overall I enjoyed the book, there were twists and turns, and nothing so disturbing or gory (like some thrillers can be), but I honestly can’t say that it’s a book that will stick with me. I feel like mother-in-law thrillers are what’s trendy right now (anyone else notice this)? So I think it will probably blend in. However, it defintely makes me want to read more of her books! If you are interested in reading this it will be coming out in April, however you can pre-order it here now!
*I received a free advanced reader copy from Netgalley in an exchange for a honest review.

Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier
Jar of Hearts came highly recommended from some other bloggers, and honestly it was just okay. The story follows a girl whose best friend died when she in high school and she just so happened to be dating the man who killed her. I honestly went into this one pretty blind, and it just wasn’t my favorite. It’s definitely a gripping story line, but I’m not a fan of stories that take place in a jail setting.

I already have a few books from the library ready to read, but what do you think I should read next? I always love your suggestions!
