It’s my Summer Book Review!
I know a book review isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but honestly they are my favorite posts to read on other people’s blogs, so of course, I have to share with all of you what I have been reading recently!
At the beginning of the Summer I would have thought that my book count would be way higher by now, however Summer has been very busy, so I haven’t gotten to read as much as I had hoped!
Nevertheless, let’s jump in!
I had really high hopes for Cancel the Wedding because so many other bloggers were sharing about how much they loved it, but it fell a bit flat for me. The story wasn’t necessarily bad, but I had to make myself continue on. I listened to this book on audiobook, so maybe that’s why? I don’t know…However, many others have loved this book so if you think a story of a woman going back to her mom’s hometown (that she’s never been to) and discovering her roots sounds interesting, then don’t let me stop you!
The Perfect Neighbors I read towards the beginning of summer and I enjoyed it (gave it 4 out of 5 stars), however I struggled to remember much about the book, so I had to go back and read the synopsis about it again lol! It was entertaining, but maybe not the most memorable book you will ever read. I would say it would be a great beach read! It focuses on four different women who live in the same neighborhood and the drama of their lives. There is a slight mystery in it too, which kept me entertained!
Life Lessons from Women in the Bible, was the bible study I did with my small group. It brought out a lot of women from the Bible that I had not ever payed much attention to and I enjoyed that aspect. However, the book got a little annoying because it felt like it had some busy work built in (read the passage then rewrite each verse in your own words) that just weren’t necessarily my taste, and the others in the group agreed! I don’t think it is by any means a bad Bible study, but just maybe not the best (at least for us)!
I loved loved loved A Hundred Summers! The vintage vibe of this book is so fantastic. The story follows two friends who always spend vacation together in the summer. You go back in forth between two time periods till the end when everything comes together. It’s a hard book to really describe, so just read it! Trust me, you will be happy you did! (Take it to the beach, it would be perfect!)
The Things We Wish Were True was another enjoyable story about a few different people that all have connecting lives in a small town. You follow quite a few different stories and they all tie up nicely at the end. There is good character growth and a good plot. The synopsis online makes it sound like there is a huge tragedy, and it’s actually not, so if you are staying away from this book because you think it will be really sad, I promise it isn’t! I kept getting this story mixed up with The Perfect Neighbors in my head, so if you have read one and really enjoyed it, then I recommend reading the other!
The Crown is the 5th book in the Selection series. If you have not read the Selection Series then I would greatly recommend you do so! The series is basically a classier version of The Bachelor: a king goes through a process of picking his bride. I absolutely loved all the other books and read them each in like a day! Warning, it is young adult, so it’s definitely pleasure reading and not deep thinking reading…lol. The Crown I believe is the final book in the series, and was probably my least favorite, but still decent enough! I don’t think Kiera Cass should continue on the series from here, but I don’t know what her plans are!
