This past weekend Todd took me to Williamsburg, VA to celebrate our one year anniversary! It was super sweet because he planned all the details and I was just along for the ride!
Warning: Lots of pictures ahead!
We left on Thursday morning and started our trip by shopping at the Williamsburg Premium Outlets! There are a ton of great stores that we love there and there were some mega sales going on! So that was awesome!
We then went to The Cheese Shop for lunch.
The place was not only a place to eat lunch, but a cute shop filled with a ton of cheese (obviously), and other jams and treats and such.
We both got a grilled cheese, and while delicious, it was a bit small, but we filled ourselves up with chips and a fun mango lemonade too!
We then went on a carriage ride to get a tour of the historic Williamsburg. You cannot drive in a majority of the area so it was nice to not have to walk the whole thing!
One tip for historical Williamsburg: walking around everywhere is free! However, if you want to go into any of the attractions (capitol building, garden, etc.) , you have to pay, however, we weren’t necessarily going for an extreme history lesson, so we enjoyed whatever we could for free! 🙂
Then, we were finally able to check into our hotel room! We stayed at the Williamsburg Lodge. This is one of the two hotels that are on actual Historical Williamsburg. It is awesome because you can walk just about anywhere from your hotel!
The hotel was also historically themed as you can tell from our room. One of the coolest features of our hotel was that there was not only a regular pool, but also a tranquility pool (we sadly did not take advantage of this because we ran out of time). Also, you could take free tennis lessons, free bike rentals, and a lot of other cool amenities just for staying there.
We then went back out to explore the historical area a bit more, and walk around the shops at Merchants Square, which was also in walking distance from our hotel (I definitely got my steps in for the day! lol)
And then we had dinner at The King’s Arms Tavern, which was also in historical Williamsburg area. Todd told me this Tavern was where Thomas Jefferson used to come and eat when he would visit Williamsburg!
The food was typical of how they would have eaten in Colonial Williamsburg. I got the 10oz Ribeye, and Todd got the Game Pie (Rabbit, Venison, and Duck). His came with a Jelly that you spread over it, and he absolutely loved it!
There was even a Violinist there for entertainment!
Friday, we got up early and headed down to Jamestown Beach. It was a little bit chilly, but very pretty and not crowded at all!
At lunch time we were craving some pancakes, so we went to the Astronomical Pancake and Waffle House. OH my goodness was this place amazing! I would totally recommend it! Todd and I shared a meal and still didn’t finish it!
We got the meal that was two large cinnamon pancakes (pretty much like a huge cinnamon roll). It was delicious! You have to try this if you go! The picture does not truly do the size of the meal justice.
We then headed to the Yankee Candle Village. Even if you aren’t a huge candle person, you have to go here! I have never seen a place like it. Not only was there the hugest Yankee candle store ever (imagine every scent ever arrange by color), but there was a Christmas store, toy store, candy store, and more!
One cool thing you can do there is make your own candle, and it only costs 12 dollars!
We decided to make a “seasonal candle” The top scent in a spring scent and then it goes to Summer, Fall, and Winter!
We then headed to Yorktown area to eat at the Water Street Grille. This is a very popular restaurant so if you go, go as early as possible!
We shared a delicious Hawaiian pizza!
And enjoyed a beautiful view!
We then went on a two hour sunset cruise.
Todd was not particularly thrilled with this attraction. It advertised it being romantic, however the boat is small for the amount of people you are on the boat with so you pretty much are hip to hip with people, there wasn’t enough seating available for everyone to sit, and even then the seating wasn’t very comfortable. Also, there was no “entertainment,” and while riding on the water is entertaining, if you don’t have a comfortable seat to enjoy it on and you have to make a lot of small talk with the people around you, it gets a bit boring for two whole hours.
However, it wasn’t all negative! The crew was super nice, and the view of the sunset is great! Also, it’s a great picture opportunity.
Saturday was our last day! We woke up early and took advantage of our free bike rentals at our hotel and rode bikes around historical Williamsburg, and guys…this is the way to go! There are no cars to worry about, there is a ton of street space to ride your bike, and you can see the whole area so much faster than if you were walking, not to mention it was just fun! This was our favorite thing the whole trip!
We then went back to finish our outlet shopping before we headed over to The Fat Canary for our anniversary dinner!
We loved this restaurant! The food was delicious and the service was awesome!
I had the Guinea Fawn.
Todd had the Grouper.
Our delicious chocolate mousse dessert!
After dinner we headed home! Alrighty that sums up our awesome first anniversary trip! If you have never been to Williamsburg I would definitely suggest checking it out! If you have been let me know if there was anything that we didn’t do but should have!
Thanks for stopping by!
